When I checked in the receptionist was unfriendly. I had paid the total bill for my entire stay of 6 nights in cash at arrival, but still the receptionist wouldn't accept an international driver's license as an ID, although it met all the requirements he mentioned.
I travel a lot and this had never ever been an issue before. He even had the guts to say that he wasn't obliged to let me into the hotel if I didn't show a passport.
To be frank, I think that this man should find another job.

dormimos 8 noches. zona excelent.Recepcion muy amable, pero solo 1 habla español.Habit muy acogedora, moderna, tv pantalla LCD. Plancha y tabla.Caja fuerte.Albornoces.Cama muy comoda. Internet.Muy silencioso.Limpio.Bar chulisimo planta baja.Aspectos negativos:pequeño incidente:factura tlfn 14 S. No lo habiamos usado.No problem. Explicamos no conocer a nadie alli.Dijeron q no cargarian nada en tarjeta d credito,asi fue.Jabon d ducha y champu no son buenos.
Volveriamos SIN DUDARLO al hotel.

This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in!
We arrived in mid-December & were put in an unheated room. When we complained, the front desk kept insisting that the heat was on. Finally, we were told nothing could be done because it was out of hours. We were given a couple of blankets. The following morning other people on our corridor said they had also had no heat.
2 days later we were transferred to a smaller, more basic room on the pretext that the corridor was going to be painted. We spent the next 7 nights in a tiny room with no closet, no hanging space, no drawers, no hairdryer & no phone. We had to live out of our suitcases. We were directly under a heating or ventilation duct which made a loud noise & kept us awake all night.
The water was often lukewarm, but on the day before Christmas it was ice cold. When we complained, we were told that there were boiler problems & that we were "about the fourth people" to complain. In the meantime another person was complaining that his room had no heat! All our complaints were met with rude indifference by the front desk staff.
The bar was supposed to close at half past midnight but when we tried to order drinks at midnight one night, we were told disapprovingly that the bar was closed & that it was "very late". When we pointed out that closing time was half past midnight, we were informed that this depended on how many customers there were.
When we checked out we requested a partial refund for the lack of heating & hot water. We were simply blanked out & told that no refund had been authorised.
In summary, stay at this dump at your peril!

He pasado 10 noches en el hotel Amsterdam Court y he estado muy bien. La ubicación del hotel es magnifica. Cerca del metro y de times square se encuentra en el corazon de broadway. Iba con miedo después de leer algunos comentarios sobre el mismo, pero la realidad fue diferente. Las habitaciones son pequeñas pero acogedoras. Estan limpias y hay suficientemente espacio como para poder asearse y dormir. Si volviera a New York no dudaría en volver al hotel Amsterdam court.

Where do I start...? This Hotel is the worst I have ever stayed in. I had to request towels for the room as only one bath towel was provided. The Bathroom in the room flooded. We moved to another room. Two nights later there was a mouse in the new room, which I killed in the bathroom and placed on the reception counter in a bag. The staff were ignorant and did not show any sign of concern for what happened. I checked out after the mouse incident and went to a Comfort Inn. Avoid this Hotel at all costs. It's a dump. I'd give it a no star rating. I’d rather sleep in the alleyways of Harlem than to spend another vacation in this Hotel. Under existing management it can only devolve to the status of a brothel. DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you’re looking for the Ritz or the Plaza you won’t find it here. However, what you’ll find is that you’re not staying at your “folks place.” I love the “homeliness’” at this charming hotel as well as their very reasonable prices. Thank you for making each stay with you so enjoyable.

The hotel reception and the concierge was not bad at all but it wasn't until we arrived we were informed that the restaurant was closed for refurbishment, which in itself seemed a little strange as all cutlery and crockery was still laid out on the tables as if they were ready to open. This meant that there were no refreshments as well as food available at any time. Being a person who doesn't function before the first coffee in the morning was just a little inconvenient! However, Starbucks was a stone's throw away!
When you walk out of the lift onto your floor, its dark and dingy, and so are the rooms. The bed spread had a bad patchwork job on it and the whole place looked like it was in need of a refurb.
Its location is convenient for Broadway and Times Square but best you check elsewhere for a nicer hotel.

The Hotel Elysee is a little jewel of a hotel. I loved the décor and the free breakfast and wine and cheese reception in the club room and I appreciate the incredible service from all the staff. They exude an easy happy efficiency. For just a bit extra they offered to upgrade me and my sister to a junior suite and we felt like a princesses all week!

Pay no attention to the hotel's very professional web site. What you'll see there bears almost no resemblence to reality. They promote it as a budget choice for business travelers, when in fact it compares unfavorably to most youth hostels. While conveniently located, it's dank, filthy, and not the kind of place most folks would want to spend even one night if given a choice. Please resist the urge to give it a try for one night and steer clear of this dump.
